Stephen Harrison Thomas is a former Royal Navy Sea Harrier fighter pilot, airline captain, international aviation adviser, author, and educator whose life has taken him from the front lines of war to some of the most dangerous and politically complex regions of the world.
As one of the youngest front-line fighter pilots in the Royal Navy, he flew 51 combat missions during the Falklands War, including ten at night, and was credited with three air-to-air victories. For his service, courage, and operational achievements, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
After leaving the military, Stephen became a commercial airline pilot, flying both short-haul and international routes. Yet the relative predictability of airline life soon gave way to a far more dangerous chapter when he became involved in counter-narcotics aviation operations in Colombia. There, he flew and managed missions against cocaine production while operating under the constant threat of cartel and guerrilla gunfire.
His later career included advisory work with governments and international organisations, as well as assignments in Africa and Latin America involving aviation, security, education, and economic development.
Stephen is also the founder of the Swiss School of Business Research and has dedicated much of his later career to higher education, leadership, and the development of innovative academic programmes for experienced professionals.
His books draw directly from an extraordinary life lived at the intersection of aviation, conflict, adventure, leadership, and survival. Written with honesty, humour, and an unflinching eye for detail, his work offers readers a rare view of events from inside the cockpit and behind the headlines.
